They may not be a new band, but it’s a new era for London quartet Tripsun, who you may know as Triple Sundae – they snipped the old name in half last year, poking their heads out of debut album mode to serve up ‘Chemstrains’. Fast forward almost a year, and said debut album is on the way. No firm release date yet, but it’s in the diary for TBA 2023.
It’s shaping up to be an absolute ripper if ‘Civilised’ is anything to go by. Barely breaching the two-minute barrier, the song hits back at colonial attitudes and racism, with vocalist Hass feeling out of place in a society removed from his Palestinian roots, calling out the false picture of the Palestinian people painted by Western media as he references the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh last year, as well as the 1948 Dier Yassin massacre. “It’s either media silence or media bias – there’s no in-between.”
There’s a lot going on, with the song’s chorus encouraging the listener to question the societal norms that have shaped the world. “What does it mean to be civilised? What determines the value of a life?” Tripsun ask on a song that sets the bar for their forthcoming debut, which we can only refer to as an acronym for now: KTD. Stream ‘Civilised’ below (or on Bandcamp) and be on the lookout for more from Tripsun relatively soon.
