IT’S NEWS that will raise a cheer from many a fan of quirky and plain damn lovely songcraft.
Boutique reissue specialist Craft Recordings is to repress Jonathan Richman’s fourth solo excursion, 1992’s I, Jonathan, on vinyl for the first time since its initial release.
August 14th is the date to circle on your calendar: it’s available to pre-order now.
I, Jonathan features such crackers as “I Was Dancing in the Lesbian Bar,” “Parties in the USA” and “That Summer Feeling.”
Jonathan first emerged in the 1970s as frontman of Boston’s The Modern Lovers. It was with his second incarnation on the west coast, as Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, that he assured his place in rock’n’roll valhalla with “Road Runner”.
As always, and despite gathering in a full band, I, Jonathan is strongly influenced by vintage rock ’n’ roll, and is full of handclaps and harmonies, with that trademark candid, charming, naïve-yet-wise lyricism.
In addition to the standard vinyl release, Vinyl Me, Please is releasing a highly limited sky-blue pressing.
