BRISTOL’S quite literally skull-reshaping post-rave quartet Scalping, fresh from what must’ve been a sonically mental tour in support of Warp Records bass ‘n’ breaks genius Squarepusher, are back out on the road early next year, with a string of UK dates just announced.
2021 has been a stellar year for SCALPING: it all began with them signing to Houndstooth, dropping a rather excellent and headfucking brace of EPs, getting the remix accolades from Mogwai, among others – and then, that tour. If you’ve seen them live, you’ll know how gloriously intense it is.
The band formed in Bristol in 2017 when James Rushforth, Alex Hill, Isaac Jones, Nick Berthoud and Jason Baker sought to splice the city’s off-kilter dance music tradition to the more organic noise-rock and post-punk template. Since when: stand well back and light the blue touchpaper.
Those dates are as follows:
Wednesday, February 16th, Belgrave Music Hall, Leeds;
Thursday, February 17th, The White Hotel, Salford;
Friday, February 18th, The Ferret, Preston;
Saturday, February 19th, Divinity Club at Future Yard, Birkenhead (late show);
Wednesday, February 23rd, The Trades Club, Hebden Bridge;
Friday, February 25th, The Black Prince, Northampton;
Saturday, February 26th Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff, and
Thursday, May 5th, fabric, London.
