Emerging from a period of quiet reflection, First Day of Spring has re-emerged with ‘You’re Blue I’m Blue,’ the first track from their eagerly anticipated second EP. Building on the sonic foundation laid by their debut record, Fly Over Apple Blossom, this new project positions the band for an exciting journey through the remainder of 2024.
The second single from the upcoming EP, ‘The Rising Tide,’ continues to showcase the band’s nuanced approach to emotion and striking alternative sound. Blending an ethereal, shimmering shoegaze-come-soft-grunge undertone with clean, precise production, the track allows First Day of Spring’s sharp riffs and bright melodies to shine through. This guitar-driven, alternative instrumentation is led by a distant, delay and distortion tinted vocal which delivers biting cynicism delivered through poetic lyricism.
Speaking about the single the band explain: “The Rising Tide is about observing your surroundings and finding a place internally, where you can feel authentic in your own thoughts, beliefs, and values without any external deluge of influence. It’s about being an individual. It’s about being strong.”
First Day of Spring experiments with the balance between art and melody, flourishing in the low light to offer listeners a blend of catharsis and solace at the crossroads of familiarity and originality. Drawing on influences from post-punk and various alt-90’s US groups, the band creates a space for expressive beauty and raw melancholy, transporting audiences from reality into a more contemplative realm.
