News: Finnish Musician, Philosopher & Author Lauri Järvilehto Releases New Album, ‘Songs About Sadness’

Finnish musician, philosopher, and author Lauri Järvilehto returns with his latest album, Songs About Sadness. Drawing from his multifaceted life, the album explores themes of time, identity, and the search for meaning through moments of electronic experimentation and others of infectious indie-pop. Inspired by artists like David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Björk, and St. Vincent. Balancing his Finnish roots and philosophical perspective, Järvilehto crafts a reflective yet universally resonant collection.

Featuring collaborations with his daughter Silja, Songs About Sadness explores family dynamics, personal struggles, and global issues. The A-side delves into themes of fatherhood and personal reflection with tracks like Typhoon and Maze, while the B-side addresses broader concerns through songs such as Fair Insight and Whippoorwill. The album’s centerpiece, Moomin Weather, captures its essence, embracing melancholy as an integral part of life.

Recorded with a deeply personal touch, Järvilehto plays all instruments and programs every sound himself, marking a shift from his previous work. This hands-on approach emphasises authenticity and emotion, culminating in tracks like The Days We Forget, featuring Silja, and Whippoorwill, which includes a riff from his brother Paavo. Mastered at Abbey Road Studios, the album invites listeners to reflect on life’s complexities and beauty.
