The Festival of the Stone, an annual celebration renowned for its blend of music, community engagement, and reverence for ancient brewing customs, is poised to greet the onset of Winter in Byron Bay on Saturday, 1st June.
Marking its milestone 10th edition, the Festival of the Stone is set to attract both residents of Byron Bay and tourists alike, drawn by the allure of a distinguished musical roster, culinary delights, and the ceremonial introduction of the 2024 vintage of Stone Beer. This event also serves as a platform for philanthropy, as proceeds will be directed towards supporting the imperative initiatives of the local homeless shelter, Fletcher Street Cottage, thus fostering a mutually beneficial outcome for all stakeholders involved.
This year the featured artists are Dan Sultan, Beddy Rays, The Beefs, Verge Collection, Aka Lui and Mid Drift.
One of Australia’s esteemed singer-songwriters, Dan Sultan, boasts an impressive collection of accolades, including 7 ARIA Awards, NIMA Awards, Top 5 ARIA-charting albums, and an ARIA-certified gold record. Beddy Rays’ signature tracks are instantly recognizable, characterized by heartfelt lyrics, infectious hooks, and mosh-worthy riffs. Their music has garnered acclaim, earning placements on triple j’s Hottest 100 and Hottest 100 Like a Versions, as well as an ARIA nomination for ‘Breakthrough Artist’. The Beefs, connoisseurs of “pub-pop” goodness, established their musical sanctuary in 2018, blending infectious pop melodies with rock ‘n’ roll charm. Verge Collection, hailing from Perth, combines classic pop sensibilities with working-class poetry, capturing the essence of suburban Australian life. AKA Lui’s distinctive fusion of disco and psychedelia has garnered widespread acclaim, with his debut single amassing over 2 million streams on Spotify alone. Brisbane indie-pop quintet Mid Drift, renowned for their sun-soaked melodies and electrifying live performances, have swiftly become a favorite in their hometown and beyond.
Festival of the Stone 2024 will raise money for Byron Shire homeless hub, Fletcher Street Cottage. Byron Shire’s homelessness rate is currently the highest in NSW and Fletcher Street Cottage provides support, information, referral and advocacy to people at risk of homelessness and those already sleeping rough.
