Dutch Criminal Record, the vibrant indie trio originally from Chichester and now based in Brighton, have officially announced their highly anticipated debut album ‘Novium’. Alongside this major announcement, the band has also released their dynamic new single, ‘Gaslight’, blending spoken word with their signature breezy indie sound. Adding to the excitement, Dutch Criminal Record (DCR) have revealed plans for a European tour with Good Kid set for late 2024.
Over the past few years, DCR have been making waves in the music scene, selling out shows across the UK, and touring Europe and the US, including a notable performance at SXSW. With fresh material on the horizon through AntiFragile Music and a summer filled with festival performances, the band is charging into their debut album with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.
‘Gaslight’, produced in collaboration with Rob Quickenden, showcases DCR’s adeptness at blending buoyant indie with spoken word social commentary. The track features jangly guitar tones and upbeat melodies juxtaposed with introspective, coming-of-age lyrics. The stylistic production—characterized by gritty distortion, expansive reverb, and shimmering modulation effects—culminates in a climactic chorus that exudes vibrant energy. Harmonizing backing vocals and a distorted lead vocal weave together, creating a bittersweet yet euphoric musical landscape.
In discussing the new track, DCR shared, “Gaslight is at its heart a song about being young in the UK in the point of history where we find ourselves. The song is a chaotic intertwining web of many different threads of thought and emotion, reflecting regret, financial struggles, societal guilt, and anxiety about the state of the world.” The band revealed that the lyrics were crafted using a technique inspired by Thom Yorke and David Bowie, where lines were written, cut up, and reorganized to mirror the chaotic nature of overthinking and anxiety.
DCR’s growth has been bolstered by their substantial presence on TikTok, where they have amassed over 500k followers. Members Sam Thrussell, Joe Frampton, and Joe Delaney-Stone have generated significant buzz, releasing music through labels such as Alcopop, FRTYFVE, and now Antifragile. With over 10 million streams on Spotify and support across music press.
As they ride the wave of their growing success, Dutch Criminal Record is poised to captivate audiences with their debut album ‘Novium’, further cementing their place as an exciting new band.
