London alternative rock quartet Dogviolet return with their latest single ‘Dandelion’.
Blending elements of ’80s goth, ’90s grunge, shoegaze, and alternative rock, the single is beautifully simplistic, clean and restrained offering a sound true to their live lineup. Intricate intertwining vocal harmonies melodies, controlled drums, beautifully thought out guitar and grounding bass create a track which is delicate and intimate whilst retaining a biting grunge edge through the song-craft and atmospheric production.
Thematically, ‘Dandelion’ is rooted in resistance, resilience, and the rejection of capitalist productivity culture. Inspired by Magda Nawrocka-Weekes’ pamphlet Be a Weed, the song likens people to dandelions—undervalued yet essential. As Naz Toorabally explains, “Like so-called weeds, people are often judged by their usefulness under capitalism rather than their inherent worth. ‘Dandelion’ is a reminder that we are more than our productivity and a call to come together to build the world we need.”
Produced by Ella Patenall and recorded by Joy Stacey at Goldsmiths Music Studios, the track builds toward a dreamlike, reflective bridge before culminating in a euphoric, defiant finale. As Patenall describes, “This track has a driving, grungy energy, but we wanted to balance that power with moments of delicacy and atmosphere. The whole production was about capturing the contrast between grit and intimacy.”
Dogviolet has shared stages with acclaimed artists such as Heartworms, BERRIES, GENN, and The Wedding Present, performing at renowned venues including The Lexington, Village Underground, and O2 Institute Birmingham. With ‘Dandelion’, the band continues to showcase their potential, delivering a track that resonates both sonically and thematically.
