Deep Sea Arcade are back with a new single ‘No Direction’ ahead of an album and tour later this year. This follows a turbulent time following the loss of co-founder Nick Weaver in 2012 at the age of 37, leaving Nic McKenzie to continue the band which they both started back in 2012. Their last release was second album ‘Blacklight’ in 2018 and other than a vinyl reissue of the debut album ‘Outlands’ last year, things have been quiet.
Now, there is movement at the station. A new album and tour have been announced, and to sweeten the dish, a new single ‘No Direction’ hits the planet today.
The single has all that made this outfit so very special. ‘No Direction’ coasts along on an insistent synth riff with sparkling instrumentation and McKenzie’s soft enchanting vocals that positively soar with celestial melodies. Like their compatriots Pond or Tame Impala, the music captures a shimmering enigmatic air – and indeed the track was produced by Jay Watson (GUM) who has adeptly steered those bands in the past.
McKenzie says of the track:
‘No Direction’ is about standing at a crossroads—whether with lovers, friends, or even our past selves. It’s about the courage to embrace change.
The track glides like an albatross above the dappling, sparkling oceans off the antipodean coast, freewheeling and touched with a hint of bittersweet melancholia.
‘No Direction’ is out now and can be downloaded and streamed here. A new album is being cited for mid year.

To celebrate, Deep Sea Arcade are hitting the road this week with special guests Milou Moon, a Naarm-based psych-rock/dream pop project led by Emily McGill.
