News: Coruja Jones Drops Haunting Indie-Folk Single ‘The Day I Die’

Manchester-based musician and songwriter Dan Jones, known professionally as Coruja Jones, has released his latest single, ‘The Day I Die.’ The introspective track, produced by Sam Vicary of The Cinematic Orchestra, serves as the lead single from Jones’s forthcoming EP, Undo, slated for release later this year.

‘The Day I Die’ is a profound exploration of surrender and acceptance, capturing the essence of melancholic indie-folk. The song delves into the emotional journey of healing and moving on from grief, building on themes introduced in Jones’s previous work, which addressed the raw pain of his father’s passing in 2016. This new single represents a significant step in his healing process, reflecting on the inevitability of loss—be it the end of a relationship or a part of oneself.

Reflecting on the track, Jones shares, “I finished writing it at dawn in that barn where we made the demos in the summer of 2022. It felt like I had moved on to a different phase of healing after losing my Dad. The song embraces the inevitability of death and loss with open arms, whether that be actual death, the end of a relationship, or even a part of yourself that you’ve put to rest. I hope this track can aid others on their healing journey.”

With ‘The Day I Die,’ Coruja Jones sets the stage for Undo, an EP that explores various aspects of the healing process. Featuring woody acoustic instrumentation, expansive delays, and Jones’s versatile vocals, Undo promises to be a captivating and deeply resonant body of work.
