London born Clarence, aka Louis Matlock, is set to make his mark on 2023 with the release of his disruptive alt-pop debut single ‘Leo With The Gun’, out today on Special Projects.
‘Leo With The Gun’ is a phrenetic statement of intent from Clarence whose sound is as diverse as his influences; Gorillaz, Jamie T, David Bowie, The Clash and Blur – the best of British with truly international appeal.
The single showcases Clarence’s raw vocal delivery – blending punk attitude and rap lyricism. Of the song, he says: “On a trip in LA I saw a man walking down Hollywood boulevard passionately screaming at nothing. It felt like a metaphor for life. Being young and not feeling heard, being older and not necessarily wiser but still more confident for some reason. I guess it’s a bit ‘us against them’ lyrically, but also questioning how we decide who and what we listen to and who we ignore”.
Following a coveted support slot for The Rolling Stones in Hyde Park last summer, Clarence spent 2022 honing his craft as a live performer. With more music on the horizon and two highly anticipated shows this February supporting Mancunian power pop duo Hot Milk, Clarence is setting the tone for an exciting year ahead.
