News: Cambridge Indie-Pop-Rockers LAY / BYE Unveil New Single ‘Love Songs Are Boring <3’

Cambridge based trio LAY / BYE flex the poppier side of their repertoire on the new single ‘Love Songs Are Boring <3’.

Building a reputation for their electrifying live performances, the band takes a surprising turn the new single blending satirical lyricism with infectiously catchy melodies. The result is a track which at once takes a cynical jab at modern pop (even including a heart emoji in the song title), whilst in itself delivering a commercial, indie-synth-pop sound.

Co-produced by the gifted Matt Turner and Grammy-nominated Robin Schmidt (whose credits include work with The 1975, The Vaccines, and Nothing But Thieves), ‘LOVE SONGS ARE BORING <3’ moves away form the usual rock-driven sound, leaning into pop melodies, swelling synths sound and plucky indie guitar tones whilst retaining the band’s signature sense of energy.

Discussing the track, the band explained, “Love Songs Are Boring <3 is a departure from our usual raucous riffs, diving deep into the introspective world of pop music. The song touches on the idea of loving someone you shouldn’t through clever lyrical references and subtle cues from our awe-inspiring instrumentals. It’s a reflection on the cliché love stories we hear in popular film and literature, composed into a piece of art that resonates with our listeners.”

LAY / BYE have already caught the attention of tastemakers, receiving early support from platforms like BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio. Their high-energy performances have earned them spots on stage with prominent artists such as Alfie Templeman, The Vamps, Sophie Ellis Bextor, and Rag’n’Bone Man.

With the new single, the band showcase the depth of their sound, bringing a buoyant and melodic track that pokes fun at the clichés of modern pop music while delivering a memorable, fun and relatable tune.
