Brighton’s rising alt-rock trio, Bones Ate Arfa, are back with a bang, sharing their electrifying new single ‘Mushroom’. This track is a tantalising preview of their highly anticipated debut EP, ‘Akimbo People,’ set to drop on August 1st.
‘Mushroom’ is a testament to the band’s unique, raucous musicality, blending infectious energy, driving distortion-heavy riffs, and catchy melodic vocals. The single is led by urgent, deceptively catchy lead vocals that encapsulate the tight-knit synergy that defines the entire EP. It’s a track that pulses with life, characterized by its relentless groove and dynamic flow.
In discussing the single, the band said: “Mushroom is our final single before the release of the Akimbo People EP. It’s about moving on from relationships, long-standing arguments, and just awkward situations altogether. It pinpoints a lot of the anxiety around the process of moving on and getting over said experiences, as sometimes they never fully feel like they go away but sit there like a tattoo on your character.”
Arfa, the band’s lead vocalist and bassist, elaborated further: “The song grooves and flows quite uniquely compared to anything we’ve put out before, with melodically ambiguous riffs and dangerously bouncy drums reminiscent of early Tigercub and Gorillaz.”
The trio, composed of Bones on guitar, 8 on drums, and Arfa on vocals and bass, have quickly made a significant mark on the UK’s southeastern gig circuit. Their live performances are a testament to their raw talent and the electrifying energy they bring to the stage. With “Mushroom” and the forthcoming ‘Akimbo People’ EP, Bones Ate Arfa continue to establish themselves as one of the most exciting up-and-coming bands in the alt-rock scene.
Fans and newcomers alike can look forward to the full EP on August 1st, promising a collection of tracks that encapsulate the band’s eclectic style and musical prowess.
