In what is very welcome news for a Tuesday afternoon – or indeed, any other part of your week – the Oakland, CA-based Taylor Vick is back at it. Following the release of Free Company in 2019, she released a standalone single called ‘Wish’ in March of last year, with a high-profile SXSW slot lined up for the same month. We all know what happened next. She’s been silent in the interim barring a cover of Roger Miller‘s ‘A World So Full of Love’, but that silence has been broken with news of a new album.
Wayfinder arrives in a little over two months, and to coincide with the announcement, Vick has shared its lead single, the bittersweet ‘That’s Life Honey’, in which the beleaguered narrator imagines an existence free of pain but arrives at the conclusion encapsulated by the song’s title. The general ‘lost at sea’ lyrical outlook is expressed literally in its video, which you can watch below. It’s a beautiful song, with Vick’s distinctive voice front and centre. No doubt there are further delights incoming on the album. Featuring contributions from Jay Som, for whom Vick opened on a 2019 tour, it’s out Friday October 1st on ANTI-.
