Indie singer-songwriter Bobby Freemont returns with his latest single, ‘don’t let me go’, an intimate, downbeat track that feels like a nonchalant interlude when compared to the funky, R&B-indie vibe of other releases.
Built around raw, reflective lyricism and nostalgic undertones, the track captures the delicate balance between life’s highs and inevitable lows. Boxy, telephone filtered acoustic guitar and vocals which feel almost like a voice note make for a track which is both intimate and heartfelt.
Freemont describes the song as an attempt to hold onto fleeting moments of joy while knowing that challenges lie ahead. “I’ve learned that you can’t outrun the tough times—you have to move through them,” he shares. “If you’re in that space right now, I hope this song makes you feel a little less alone.” The recording process itself mirrored this raw authenticity. Almost entirely captured in a single take, the song was born out of spontaneous emotion. “Right after Steve played the guitar part, I jumped on the mic, and the words just poured out before I even had a chance to write them down. We kept that take because it felt the most honest.”
Sonically comparable to Eel’s ‘My Beloved Monster with the downbeat reflective tones of Bon Iver’s early work, the track is a great example of the emotional depth Freemont is able to conjure.
