Beat The Drum has released their first single of 2024, ‘Before The Fall’, which explores the growing influence of technology in our everyday lives. The track balances the raw grit of rhythmic guitar playing with steady arpeggios and electric buzzes, crafting a foundation that contrasts humanity and machinery. Steady brass accents run throughout the chorus, while shuffling shakers complement fill-heavy drums. As the track progresses, a subtle intensity grows, culminating in a chorus of backing vocals that suggest a burgeoning revolution against this new adversary.
“We wrote ‘Before The Fall’ about this period as AI develops beyond our technological age into the information age,” the band explains. “As we start to know less and leave the thinking to machines, we become just dumb monkeys without the fun.”
Beat The Drum comprises writers and producers Chris Calloway and Steve Murrell, making music from their studio on the outskirts of London. The cult band formed in West London in the late eighties, gaining critical acclaim below the mainstream radar. After the original band fragmented, Chris and Steve continued to perform under various names before returning as Beat The Drum in 2016. They have since released multiple albums and singles, solidifying their status as independent songwriters and producers. Their music continues to evolve, maintaining the foundation of their distinctive sound and lyrical vision.
