News: Aussie independent darlings, Hussy Hicks, release gripping new blues track, Fool On The Hill on back of news of upcoming album

16 years in, and the fiercely independent and hard-working Hussy Hicks, continue to bring us truly wondrous new music. This time, it is the southern blues-inspired Fool On The Hill, the opening track from their forthcoming album, Swimming In Uncertainty, which will be their tenth long-player.

The song was penned by Julz Parker, the band’s amazing guitarist and features extra guitar work from another of Australia’s finest on 6 strings, Minnie Marks, who adds some mean slide guitar, evoking memories of the sounds of Little Feat and the late great, Lowell George.

States Julz – “Lyrically, ‘Fool on the Hill’ delves into the pressing themes of our time — war, religion, the social impacts of our struggling medical and questionable financial systems, and the rigid opinions that accompany these topics. We’re not calling for a revolution, but we love sparking a conversation.”

Fool on the Hill marks the beginning of a new collection of songs and album unified by the theme of “swimming in uncertainty”, set to be released monthly over the coming year.

The release of the new album Swimming in Uncertainty, is broken into two offerings – you can either purchase the physical edition now up front and ahead of its official release via the band’s website or at live shows, or you can wait for the monthly streaming platform release, which will see one song released every month.

Fool on the Hill was recorded at Lovestreet Studio in Currumbin with Scott French and in the band’s own studio truck ‘Derek’ in Lismore and was mixed in a multi-continental collaboration between Julz in Australia and Raphael White in France. Mastered by Australian studio legend Don Bartley at Benchmark Mastering, this blend of local and international talent has culminated in a track that is both fun and reflective.
