Manchester indie quartet Arkayla share their 4th single ‘are keeping the momentum going in 2024 with the release of their latest single ‘Rita’. Following a string of successful releases, a sold-out London show, and a standout performance at the Isle of Wight Festival, the band continue to make the most of their momentum with another brilliant example of their vintage-tinged-indie exploits.
Bringing tight guitar tones, understated yet driving drums and grounding bass, the track’s boxy production and quirky vocal melodies create a vintage, 70s psychedelic rock tinted indie sound. As comparable to The Beatles as it is to Warmduscher, the track retains a radiant freshness within it’s nostalgic charm. Delivered with a breezy swagger, the track ebbs and flows towards a fuzzy, expressive guitar solo and a vibrant final chorus.
Vocalist Cal shares the narrative behind the single, “Rita’ tells the story of someone who’s got nothing left to lose and everything to gain, even if it’s just for fame. It’s got a naughty bossa nova backbeat behind it, never fails to get a crowd moving.”Drummer Dylan adds, “It’s that one tune in our set which always makes people say “hold on what’s going on here?” – it’s a bit like if the Doors were egyptian.”
Arkayla’s music combines nostalgic elements from various decades with a modern twist, creating a sound that has quickly garnered attention from major radio stations and publications. With producer Rich Turvey (Blossoms, The Coral, Courteeners) at the helm, the band’s sleek hooks, tasteful sound-pallet and radiant riffs shine through. Listen to the new single below.
