Grime superstar Wiley has just released a new mix of From The Outside, taken from his latest album Snakes and Ladders. It comes hot on the heels of fellow Ninja Tune/Big Dada stable artist, Actress. This time Special Request aka Paul Woolford has taken hold of it, and injected it with a little bit of anxiety, before kicking through….well, the jungle.
Right from the off, its characterised by this heavy, throbbing bass/percussion that reverbarates throughout the bar till being hit again. There’s a smattering of percussion that slowly morphs throughout the piece, from minimal house, through 808 handclaps and rippling hi-hat, through to almost DnB at some points. Now and again, there’s these off kilter synth shards that land between the beats.
