Following the success of previous single ‘Don’t Mind’, which found favour on both the BBC and XFM, Manchester quartet The Slow Readers Club return with a new track, ‘Forever in your Debt’, which is due to drop on December 1st.
Forever in your debt starts has this pounding beat and a trebbly bass that ripples underneath, always insistent but never taking over, the very sound of it perhaps recipricating Peter Hook, who recently described them as his new favourite band in the NME. Over the top though, is Aaron Starkie’s muscular, persuasive vocal, dark and brooding, but capable of soaring over the band. As it is, Forever in your debt is darkly beautiful pop music, with hints of Interpol and Editors, but with a clear and distinctive voice of their own.
Slow Readers Club are on the cusp of something big. Watch out.
