Out on March 11th via Geoff Barrows Invada label is the new studio album from London duo The KVB, aka Nicholas Wood & Kat Day. From it, the bands fifth LP since 2010, the pair have released a single, In Deep. Described by Wood as being about longing, “there is definitely a romantic undercurrent to the record”, he adds, while Day comments that “It’s about longing to be with someone and getting lost in a world that you create together.”
It opens with these swathes of tinny guitar crashes and rippling chords, as underneath there’s this motorik beat as it moves through its icy, lovelorn world of post punk and dark pop. As it reaches the verses, so things are stripped away to almost the bare miniunum, but things don’t last long as shards of noise permeates the near stillness on an increasing basis. Throw in some bare synths and some pop sensibility, and you’re onto a winner. Well, The KVB are.
