Multi instrumentalist Will Archer is preparing to release his debut album, Company, under his Slime nom-de-plume. The Newcastle born multi-instrumentalist and producer recorded the record over two years, it was eventually realised when Archer went to a rabbit warren of a studio in Hackney, where the album was whittled down from the near 400 tracks that Archer took to Dillip Harris (Mount Kimbie, Micachu) for mixing in early 2014.
From the album, Archer is streaming Hot Dog. It opens with these gentle rippling of synths, before it morphs into this almost fragile piece of electronica, all soft stabs from the synths and this guitar noodling away in the background. It begins to twist this way and that, fragments of vocal added here and there, with electronics occasionally cascading over the whole thing. There’s elements of 80s funk and shuffling house in there as well as it continually bursts through a traditional song structure, and subsequently your expectations.
This is electronic music 2015 style, and its great.
Company is out via Domino imprint Weird World on August 14th.
