Those cheeky scamps the Rizzle Kicks have released details of their new single, fresh from their appearance at the Glastonbury festival, where they played the BBC introducing stage. ‘Lost Generation’ will come out on August 26th, ahead of the release of their new album ‘Roaring 20’s’ which is out on Island records on September 2nd.
For those who aren’t aware of the Hip-Hop duo (you clearly haven’t been reading the NME for a while for a start) they are Jordan “Rizzle” Stephens and Harley “Sylvester” Alexander-Sule, who met when attending Rap workshops in their native Brighton , and then went on to the Brit School before embarking on a journey that’s taken them past 590,000 albums and 1.6 million singles sold worldwide, 1.3 million twitter followers, over 56 million views on YouTube and VEVO, 1.1 million Likes on Facebook, 200,000+ followers on Instagram and well over 1.2 million plays on Soundcloud.
The single has a laid back hook, and is more than a pleasant, if a little Lily Allen hip-hop. It just manages to come down on the side of smart pop music (a la Allen) rather than the pop-slop served up for early-teens and Now! compilations. The lyrics are a social commentary on the evils (or rather banality) of Reality Television. So, presumably, not seen on strictly pop idol of Britain soon.
