Brand new single from Hartlepool based three-piece Mt. Misery
Firmly entrenching themselves as the best thing to come out of the seaside town since Jeff Stelling, the trio who came together in 2019 are also proud to announce the release of their debut album ‘Once Home, No Longer’ on 25th June via Prefect Records.
Initially a solo-project for multi-instrumentalist, Andrew Smith he then became three with the addition of Stephen McGrother and Lewis Flower; and if the lead single is anything to go by, Mt. Misery is certainly going to brighten up this English summer in 2021.
At times timeless but full of heartfelt emotion, focusing on heartbreak and lost loves, the band are following in the footsteps of Real Estate and Whitney – those West coast/Laurel Canyon vibes from yesteryear with a keen ear for humability and ear worm hookiness; this sort of track transports you to the Pacific Coast highway.
As Smith speaks with pride about the song, “’In the Blink of an Eye’ is the oldest song on the album, written at the beginning of 2018. I was without a job and spending a lot of time at home feeling a bit directionless, so the lyrics were formed around that. It’s the first song we learned to play together so it’s an important one for all of us.”
Honing in on the songsmiths of Dennis Wilson and those other avatars of the sun-kissed beach tunes, there is a mystical romantic realism to proceedings which along with the buoyant effervescence of the playing makes for a happy go lucky feel to the music akin to The Coral or the No.1 album by Major Murphy.
Certainly ones to watch for this summer and for years to come.
The album can be pre-ordered here.
