Track: Mew – Satellites, plus album/tour news

Welcome back Mew. It seemed like the Danish art-poppers, aka Copenhagen quartet Jonas Bjerre Bo Madsen Silas Graae Johan Wohlert might have left us after going on a worryingly long haitus following 2009’s ‘No More Stories Are Told Today, I’m Sorry They Washed Away // No More Stories, The World is Grey, I’m Tired, Let’s Wash Away’, but news is now afoot of a new long player – ‘+ -‘ (plus minus) released through Play it Again Sam on April 27th.

The band recorded the new record in Copenhagen, brought in Michael Beinhorn on production duties alongside the band, and mixing duties undertaken to Rich Costey. The record also features an appearance from Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack on ‘My Complications’ – a song he co-wrote after meeting the band some years ago on a US tour.

Ahead of the album, the band have released news of a single, Satellites, which comes out on 9th March. The ambition of the band is still very much in evidence, with these tumbling synths and stuttering bass/guitar lines, before these warm crashes heralds the commencement of the song for real, the vocal lines long and irregular over these dizzying arpeggios in the guitars. Its when it reaches the chorus though that it really pulls you right there along with it.

Welcome back indeed.
