Track: Killing Joke – ‘I Am The Virus’

Killing joke is back with its first new release since 2012’s MMXII, with the announcement of a new album, ‘Pylon’ on 23rd October on Spinefarm Records; and this week made public the first track from that album ‘I Am The Virus’.

‘Pylon’ is the third of a trio of albums, along with ‘Absolute Dissent’ and the aforementioned ‘MMXII’ which have been recorded by the original Killing Joke line up, and which set out a dystopia future for humanity as a result of capitalist greed and manipulation. The previous two albums represent some of the band’s strongest work and have represented a real renaissance for the band which, after 40 years, is as strong as it has even been.

Those wondering whether Killing Joke have been able to keep that outrage and power for the latest release can rest easy (or rather get fired up), because if ‘I Am The Virus’ is anything to go by, then this could be the most furious, angriest and downright resolute call to arms yet. It is a track packed with paranoia and frustration on the lack of opposition to the forces of darkness that define our world.

To accompany it is a high octane video by long-time collaborator Michael Coles which gives the track added heft and immediacy, and really brings the message of the tract alive.

Killing Joke tell is like it is at a time when such a position is more needed than ever. Whether or not you agree you cannot ignore the band’s continued passion and fervour, and its consistency both in terms of worldview and musical output.

‘Pylon’ can be pre-ordered via Pledge Music here.

The band are touring Britain in the Autumn (O2 in Oxford on 30/10/15 just added!):
