Bec Sandridge has changed direction and, based on the pace of new single In The Fog, In The Flame, she’s running off there at full pelt.
This Sydney-based (originally from Glasgow) singer/songwriter had her feet firmly in the folk camp not so long ago. Now she’s danced over to “spaghetti disco pop” (her words) with justified confidence.
In The Fog, In The Flame, the title track from Sandridge’s forthcoming EP, is an 80s fuelled indie-pop triumph that hurtles along in the slipstream of her unique voice. Fizzing drums and shimmering synths chase the guitar and bass notes throughout.
Comparisons to Blondie and Kate Bush may be a bit of stretch but, at only twenty-four years old, there’s nothing to say that Sandridge’s distinctive vocal style – at times sultry and quivering and then strong and soaring – could run into iconic territory in the future. For now this track will have you sprinting towards the dance floor.
