Andy Burrows is not a man to hang around. His new long player, Fall Together Again, which is out via Play It Again Sam on 20th October will be Burrows tenth long player, split between solo albums and records with Razorlight, We Are Scientists and Smith & Burrows, not forgetting his BAFTA-nominated soundtrack for The Snowman and the Snowdog.
The record, the follow up to his last solo outing, 2012’s Company, were recorded in the isolated Bryn Derwen studios in North Wales, where Burrows and his band made little slices of AOR style summer. Ahead of its release, one of those little gems has been released into the (public) wild, in the shape of ‘As Good As Gone’.
It begins with this almost bluesy call and response, before it launches itself into the typical porduced sheen of the sort of thing Lydsey Buckingham was making, more that a few years ago. It’s smooth, with these jumping string lines adding to the polish, but it’s packed with the sort of melody that would have had 10cc salavating.
And trust me, that is good.
