One of the best synth bands of the eighties, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), are back with a new single and video “The Punishment of Luxury” in anticipation of their album of the same name due out on 1 September 2017. As I have often written before, creativity does not have a use-by date, and OMD are on top of their game.
It is classic OMD – bright summery synth riffs with darker lyrics about the ephemeral pleasures of consumerism:
This is no retro desperation: it has a fantastic melody, intelligent lyrics and augments the history of their substantial body of work.
OMD are on tour in support of this, their 13th album, throughout the UK.
