After making their presence felt with their 2022 debut EP ‘The Truth Always Comes Out In The End’, Welsh rockers The Now are set to release their debut album this summer after a string of singles. They sat down and answered our questions to tell the world a little bit about themselves.
Give us a potted history of the band
The Now is actually an acronym for all our middle names.
Will Thomas Harold Scott
Jay Edward Nigel Evans
Shane Owen O’Callaghan
Callum Willard Bromage
The early years of the band was just a group of us who met through our love for fine art.
We met on a random trip to the Louvre and started talking about music. Next thing we knew we were jamming in a band and The Now was born. Just like The Louvre, The Now will hopefully be famous for some of the best known works of 4 chord art the world will ever see… and hear!
Who inspired you to start making music
The inspiration behind us wanting to be in a band is watching my next door neighbour defrost his car, drive to work looking miserable, then coming home to his wife who he clearly disliked and then watching that same routine unfold day after day!
For most this is the harsh reality of life I guess striving to work hard to pay for your all inclusive holiday once a year, there’s nothing wrong with that. However, when you watch Morrissey swing some flowers around on stage at Top of The Pops and hear of Ozzy eating a bats head – that gets me harder than a fucking new Ford Focus and a trip to the Cotswolds every other Sunday of the month!
And the one or maybe two records that inspired you artistically
There’s too many to mention – Nirvana Nevermind/ Anything by Motley Crue and Bewitched debut album!
If you’re trying to explain whom you sound like to someone that’s never heard you, what do you say
Initially I’d say we sound like the bastard child of a fiery one night stand between Kasabian and Muse but since then our sound has evolved. This has been due to Oli Jacobs our producer who is currently working with The 1975 – so now I’d say we have a more modern, androgynous edge. But our music is a blank canvas you can paint your own picture, even if it’s a turd or one of those old school picture of a penis – we welcome it!
Tell us about your new track
The new track is called Devil Inside – it’s about the inner darker side that we all possess but choose to keep it lying dormant. However we all have vices that allows the devil inside us to rear it’s ugly head from time to time.
Where can we get hold of it
On all music streaming platforms and in every Woolworths.
Tell us how you write
It’s a very organic process. We lock ourselves away, sit in a circle, hold hands and pray to the gods of music to bless us with the gift of song, and just like that they fall from the sky into our laps.
Other times we just bring ideas and let it transition naturally into a song but we prefer to hold hands!
Tell us about your live show What would be your dream gig
Our live show is a performance – if you want to go and see a few lads bop about on stage then you’re in the wrong place. It’s loud, it’s inclusive and it’s where you need to be!
Our dream gig would be to headline either the Swansea Arena or the Cardiff Motorpoint. We could obviously say Wembley or Knebworth but doing a huge gig in Wales is the dream first!
What can we expect from you in the near future
We’ve recorded our first album and have some lovely singles lined up ready for you all to get your ears around. We’re also playing here there and everywhere so keep your eyes peeled on all our socials – the links to our merch, gig news etc are all readily available!
Tell us your favourite records that are rocking your headphones/tour bus/stereo
Florence Black – Weight of the World and The Vengaboys greatest hits!
