Having sold-out venues throughout the north of England, as well as ticking off festival appearances at the likes of Tramlines, the Barnsley quartet have certainly got a bright future ahead of them. We caught up with them as they release the first track from their forthcoming EP ‘Courtesy‘.
Give us a potted history of the band
We’ve been together for a little while now. In that time we’ve managed to sell out 3 hometown shows, 2 of which sold out in under 24 hours. We’ve played festivals such as Tramlines and YNot and we’ve recorded music in some surreal spaces such as The Knave in Leeds and Middle Farm Studios in Devon. We’ve switched our style slightly as we’ve matured and basically gone from soft indie boys to more rock dudes.
Who inspired you to start making music
None of us actually come from particularly musical families however we all managed to get instruments in our hands and inspire ourselves. Then when you play with other musicians, you inspire each other and thats definitely what happened with us.
And the one or maybe two records that inspired you artistically
The Strokes – Is This It
We’ve chosen this because The Strokes are masters of simplicity and giving a song just what it needs. We care about that too lol
If you’re trying to explain who you sound like to someone that’s never heard you, what do you say
If The Strokes and Weezer had a kid and he turned into a stoner.
Tell us about your new track
Our new track ‘Courtesy’ is taken from our debut EP that’s coming out later in the year. We recorded it at Middle Farm Studios in Devon which was a proper inspiring place. In the middle of literally nowhere, no phone service but a room full of mad vintage amps. It was heaven for a week.
Where can we get hold of it
Courtesy is out everywhere now! It’s paired with a video which we’re really proud of.
Tell us how you write
We have 2 songwriters, Blue & Gelder. Every song comes differently for us and we definitely don’t have a set formula. It almost always starts with a chord progression which comes when we’re jammin and we jam everyday.
Tell us about your live show What would be your dream gig
A gig in the sky with Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Snoop Dogg.
What can we expect from you in the near future
Expect a couple more singles in the same vein as ‘Courtesy’ and hopefully you’ll see us pop up on a few gig line ups throughout the year.
Tell us your favourite records that are rocking your headphones/tour bus / stereo
