Peter Hook & The Light will be headlining Saturday night at the annual goth festival in its spiritual home of Whitby on the east coast, hot on the heels of Halloween.
Hooky & The Light will be presenting Joy Division: A Celebration, taking festival goers back to the gothic roots that began it all. They’ll be playing Unknown Pleasures and Closer in their full glory, and this will be the only place you’ll see it as it’s exclusive to the Whitby Pavilion event.
On Friday though, things will kick off in deliciously macabre style as Goth Rock innovators Creeper take the stage on the back of the success of their latest album Sanguivore.
Each night, there’s an illustrious support bill, starting off on Friday, with one of the most celebrated post-punk outfits of the moment – Ist Ist – setting the scene with their industrial, Manchester tinged sound. 2023’s Protagonists took them to a different level so expect plenty from that record, as well as their excellent back catalogue.
Elsewhere, BLACK DOLDRUMS will be blitzing senses with their “dark psych” creations, delivering their contemporary form of gothic post-punk. Opening the festival on Friday, future stars THE GOSPEL, a supergroup of sorts comprising Jimmy Sweet (Hot Hot Heat), Danni McCormack (Mel from hit 90’s TV series ‘My Parents Are Aliens’), Charis Anderson (Curse Of Lono), Heather Bell (Nova Hawks), and Hazel Cotogno (Poussez Posse), will deliver an epic set.
Festival regular, alt/rock DJ royalty CARPE NOCTUM will be burning the midnight oil reprising their notorious death disco into the early hours. Around the site, attendees can also expect to see the return of the Gothic and Alternative markets, as well as other special events – to be confirmed in due course.
