The Biscuit Factory , a multi purpose venue close to Leith , hosted the first of what will hopefully be a regular set of gigs titled We should catch up if you are around . Free entry guaranteed a large turnout of Edinburgh’s gig goers who were treated to a headline set from the highly rated Redolent.
Playing in the circle format which I confess to have seen go horribly wrong for others , Redolent engaged the whole room with the band thumping away on synths , keys and drums whilst singer Robert Herbert moved effortlessly round the room layering superb vocals over the backing.
Interest has become high in Redolent with lots of radio airplay and growing numbers at shows. The latest single Make Big Money Fast Online Now is a summer anthem to warm the bones like an unexpected Edinburgh heatwave. Delivered with silky panache , this is a sound which will continue to build . Like most things that look effortless , it probably isn’t and it will be of great interest to see how the band decide to showcase their songs. Nice to see an opera style message board used on the night and although I was too slow to grab the whattsapp number , I like how this can be used to add to a performance. Funny how a snapshot can look out of context though .
So much excitement about Redolent and the night in general . A great start for the organisers with support acts Goodnight Louisa and Slim Wrist worth checking out for fans of indie pop and electronica. If things go well and this becomes a big thing , we will be able to tell our grandchildren that we saw Redolent at The Biscuit Factory . They will ask , of course , if we ate any biscuits..
