You could be forgiven for not recognizing the name, but for a man with a CV like Alain Johannes, it is hard to reconcile that his is not a household name alongside many of his musical peers. Over the years, he has formed and played with alt-rock band, Eleven, and has been involved with acts such as Queens Of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, PJ Harvey, Chris Cornell, Arctic Monkeys, Mark Lanegan, Puscifer, Eagles Of Death Metal and Kelly Clarkson, amongst many others, as a musician and/or mixer, engineer, writer or producer.
His live solo shows are characterized by his use of acoustic guitars and his legendary cigar-box guitar, and incorporate songs from across his vast repertoire as a solo artist, band member and/or collaborator. This show was no exception.
He thanked Maton Guitars for the loan of one 6-string, and one 12-string guitar for this Australian tour, and I was personally, particularly enthralled with his playing on the 12-string.
Alain was ably supported by the wonderfully erratic, and somewhat enigmatic, Scholfield (Sam Scholfield and Sam Burk).
