Altar Bar patrons were treated to a double-dose of musical action when South Australian outfit, Matt Ward & The Rising Sons joined forces with Tasmania’s own Pete Cornelius Band to provide a great night of guitar-based Americana and blues at Hobart’s Altar Bar. The shows in Tasmania were the culmination of a tour for their Ward’s latest album, Long Way Home, which ultimately brought them full-circle, and back to the place they recorded the album at Wilder Tasmania.
The five-piece band played their way through most of the new album, alongside a handful of previous material to showcase their talents, ranging from a traditional country feel, through alt-country to country rock.

Following on from this was The Pete Cornelius Band. Pete has a new album coming out in February of next year (keep your eyes out for a review here on Backseat Mafia) and the band played a few of the new tracks which will appear on this upcoming release, as well a range of songs from across the back-catalogue, including a stunning rendition of Repo Man (a cover of the Ray LaMontagne classic) which showcases Pete’s abilities as a master guitarist and which never fails to send shivers down my spine.
