naarm/Melbourne bands, ENOLA and RVG played their sets for Dark Mofo 2023 at In The Hanging Garden, an open air venue which sits between two of Dark Mofo’s other sites, The Odeon and Altar. This was the first time, surprisingly, that I had shot at this venue, and was surprised at how good it was for live music.
First up were ENOLA, who brought their deep shoegaze/grunge style of post-punk to life in front of the expectant crowd. With hints of Siouxsie and slices of The Pixies and Sonic Youth, this band, the brainchild of singer/songwriter Ruby Marshall, delivered in spades with a polished performance totally befitting the festival experience.
A double dose of naarm/Melbourne was to follow with beloved indie rockers, RVG. Led by singer, Romy Vager, RVG performed tracks from across their 3 album catalogue, concentrating on their latest offering, the simmering Brain Worms, and again, wowed the crowd with their powerful set.
Seeing both of these bands back-to-back was most certainly a treat, and one that the Dark Mofo Festival always manages to bring.
