Live Review & Gallery: A Spectacular Display of Talent as Music Makers Club Celebrates Their 100th Event at Oxford Art Factory – 16.08.2024, Eora/Sydney

The Music Makers Club celebrated a landmark 100th show last night at the Oxford Art Factory, putting on an exhilarating showcase of New South Wales’ live music scene. With a lineup featuring twelve emerging bands, the event was a powerful reminder of the Club’s role in championing the diversity and talent that has defined Eora/Sydney’s music landscape. Co-founded by Mark Gerber and Matt O’Connor, the Music Makers Club has become a vital platform for local artists, and last night’s milestone was a testament to its enduring success.

The atmosphere at Oxford Art Factory was electric, with each band bringing their own unique energy and style to the stage. The night was not just a celebration but also an opportunity for Oxford Creative Academy students, who played a key role in managing the event, to gain invaluable experience that will undoubtedly shape their future careers in music.

Reflecting on the night, it’s clear that the Music Makers Club has not only survived but thrived through challenging times for live music. This 100th show showcased the dedication of everyone involved, from the performers to the organisers, and underscored the importance of supporting live music and emerging talent in Sydney.

From the surfy indie rock of The Colliflowers (who have come a long way since we premiered their single ‘Let Me Go‘ way back in 2023) to Holly Riva’s stadium-ready sparkling pop prowess, the night was a celebration of diverse musical styles. Butter Knife’s fusion of dreamy indie rock and raw punk energy stood out, as well as Oscar Lennon’s heartfelt blend of pop-punk and acoustic folk. West Wind’s soulful indie rock and Eshaan’s electrifying club-ready alt-pop set the bar high, leaving the audience absolutely riled and ecstatic.

The energy never waned as Sunset Sherbert offered a refreshingly distinct take on indie rock, while The Sooks stirred excitement with their soon-to-drop surf-rock-infused EP. Artist and producer Andrew Dalton introduced us to his own flair for indie-pop, and Bobby Uncle captivated the crowd with his magnetic stage presence and entrancing vocals. Overnight, Wollongong’s emerging boy band, charmed with their smooth harmonies, and The Daturas brought out their striking blend of surf and psychedelic rock. All in all, it was an unforgettable night that perfectly encapsulated the vibrant spirit of the Music Makers Club.

For anyone local to Sydney, the Music Makers Club events are unmissable—full of fun and an exciting way to discover some of Australia’s best up-and-coming artists. With something for everyone, last night was a celebration of the incredible talent brewing within our music community. A not-so-hidden gem in the heart of Eora/Sydney.
