Live Review: Elkin – Burner Records Bash, Workmans Cellar, Dublin 05.02.2022

On the 5th of February, Elkin played there first full capacity live show since the beginning of the pandemic. Elkin are an Irish electro-pop duo made up of Carla Ryan and Ellen O’Mahoney. The duos self proclaimed “girly bangers” always get the crowd moving and this night was no different.

The set on the night came last after a series of other talented local acts including Fynch among others. Elkin played most of  ANTHOLOGY, a collection of singles they have released over the past year. ‘Clothes’ was a highlight on the night. This song deals with unwanted harassment of women and that you should be able to wear whatever you want and not being harassed. This is an important message that Ellen and Carla are extremely passionate about.

Another highlight of ANTHOLOGY was my favourite  ‘Tokens’. This song is about finding memories in songs that those close to you have shown you. It’s sweet melodies and catchy chorus always get me (and the rest of the crowd) dancing.

Towards the end of the set came two of their darker songs ‘DIY’ and ‘Bodies’. These songs gave a tremendous end to a fantastic set and a great first  gig of the year! Can’t wait to catch Elkin again soon!
