Live Review: Christy O’Donnell – The Waiting Room, London 22.05.23 – 23.05.23

Christy O’Donnell’s first London headline show of 2023 at the intimate Waiting Room, Stoke Newington was not to be missed. Fans who were lucky enough to see him on both days (that’s dedication!) got to see two shows with two different atmospheres. The first show, Christy backed up by his band, brought friends Loi (saxophonist), Hannah (singer) and Sacha (cellist) up on stage during parts of his set. Naturally that brought a smooth heartfelt intimate element to his songs In Denial, Burned Out, Dancing With Air and When We Get Old.

The sold out second show, Christy mixed up the setlist and with his band belted his songs once more. The Glaswegian’s personality and sense of humour shone through as he elaborated on his songs and the meaning behind them. The enthusiastic crowd sang along, with his set ending perfectly on Let Me Down. Unlike, the night before, there was no getting off stage for Christy as the fans demanded more. They got what they wanted with crowd favourite In Denial performed for the second time… Now that’s something you don’t see everyday.

Christy’s new single Glory Days is set to be released in the coming months, with the hope of an album release by the end of the year. I can’t wait.
