For those who don’t know; a brief resume. Brian Brannigan, nicknamed Lazarus by his mother for surviving at birth when the odds were stacked against him, goes on to be diagnosed with spinabifida and, a few years later, teenage cancer.
Through surgery and good luck, Larazus survived and prospered as a singer-songwriter – his way of making sense of the world, and those songs became the staple of A Lazarus Soul.
Last night they brought their unique brand of raw, genuine, unmistakably Dublin inspired story telling to Cleeres Bar & Theatre Kilkenny, and raw and electric it was in no small park due to Brian’s stage presence. The night is long overdue as, like many shows, it was postponed and rescheduled in covid times. The band are actually here tonight in support of their 2019 album The D They Put Between the R & L and not surprising the set contains a number of songs taken from the album.
Introducing the song ‘We Know Where You Live’ Brian was heard to say “this is where i get to be Morrissey and maybe Im an even bigger!”, to laughs from the sold out crowd, he also added though that he still loves Morrissey apart from his opinions and once you hear the song you cant but hear the Smiths influence throughout. Some of the other songs during the set are just Brian & Joe on electric guitar but none of the bands raw energy is lost. The band finished out their set with The Falls, ll Sink Us and not Last of the Analogue Age.
