Tropical Fuck Storm play the Metro Theatre in Sydney tonight as part of their “Cellophane Honeymoon” tour. Joining them are the equally compelling acts Mod Con, Cool Sounds, and C.O.F.F.I.N., each adding their unique flair to the lineup. This short tour of the East coast marks a significant moment before Tropical Fuck Storm embark on a European tour, where they are set to support the iconic Bikini Kill and grace the stage at the renowned Primavera Festival in Barcelona.
TFS is made up of former members of The Drones, Gareth Liddiard (singer and guitar) and Fiona Kitschin (bass,) along with Erica Dunn (Mod Con, guitars) and Lauren Hammel (High Tension, drums). Kitschin was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, which forced the band to take a break from touring. It’s great to see her on bass tonight, looking fit, in a shimmery top and jeans as TFS hit top gear and excoriate the audience with a powerful onslaught of their trademark noise rock. The way that the band interact and harmonise is unique, to me it’s a crazy mix of the B52s crossed with Les Miserables via the Shirelles. TFS have a relatively short setlist tonight, but it’s clear that the audience is delighted to have them back in Sydney again, and I think that the feeling is mutual.
