The King Brothers are Japan’s most unhinged rock ‘n’ roll export, a band that has spent decades turning stages into battlegrounds with their sweat-drenched, no-holds-barred performances. Equal parts punk fury and garage-rock chaos, their sound is a blistering assault that feels like The Stooges fed through a jet engine, with frontman Keizo’s feral energy leading the charge and tonight, somewhat incongruously they are playing the Marrickville Bowling Club in Sydney.
Support acts for the King Brothers tonight are Grinding Eyes and The Loose Lips.
Honestly, I don’t even know where to begin with the King Brothers. From the second they step on stage, clean-cut in their suits and ties, it’s like you’re watching chaos unravel in real time. The whole gig is a whirlwind—crowd surfing, mic cords tangling around bodies (my own included), high kicks, and leaps off amplifiers like the stage itself can’t contain them. By the end, the entire band is off the stage, swallowed by the crowd, with a circle forming around them on the dance floor. It’s not just a gig, it’s a full-body experience, and it’s the kind of madness that the Marrickville Bowlo crowd will be talking about for years.
The King Brothers will end their Australian tour on 8 September in Melbourne @ Shotkickers, Thornbury w/ Mesa Cosa, The Wraylettes. Tickets HERE.
