Milk! Records is celebrating its tenth birthday this year and Backseat Mafia was there to document this very special event at the magnificent Phoenix Central Park. Milk! Records was founded in 2012 to release Courtney Barnett’s first EP ‘I’ve Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris’. Since then the label has gone from strength to strength, with its roster including Australian artists Courtney Barnett, Jen Cloher, Dyson Stringer Cloher, Hachiku, Liz Stringer, The Finks, Jade Imagine, Mess Esque, Loose Tooth, and East Brunswick All Girls Choir as well as international artists Sleater-Kinney, Chastity Belt, Hand Habits, Tiny Ruins and Bachelor.
Joining Courtney Barnett and her band (Dave Mudie on drums and Bones Sloane on bass) at the Phoenix were Jess Ribeiro, Lily Morris, Kee’ahn. Also featured was Hachiku who played the piano, sitting in an alcove, way above the band. The artistry and talent of the assembled artists was simply breathtaking, and was perfectly complemented by voluptuous beauty of the Phoenix.
