iT DOESN’T look like we’re going to have a summer to remember, at least for the right reasons; but we could all use a little musical balm right now.
Stepping up to the task are New Zealand’s L.A.B, who have just released a new package of their single, “In The Air” – which was the first independent-release track to top the country’s top 40 chart in eight years when it hit the racks last December.
If you’re new to the party, “In The Air” is a midtempo, funky swinger, very much in the cool tone you’ll love if the French house giants such as Cassius, St Germain and Motorbass flicked your switches.
And now it’s received further retooling to take it deeper from some of the most adept remixers from Down Under. Dub FX give it a nu skool breakz feel, with lots of space; Tiki Taaine slows it right down to a brass-tinged dub; Scott Tindale’s take is light and techy, and Magik J brings it over to the rhythmic tech-house mantra end of things.
