Album Review: Goldie/Various Artists – ‘Masterpiece’

From early Graffiti artist to one of Drum n Bass’s most prolific icons, Goldie’s music career spans over twenty years, so its of no surprise he was asked to contribute to the ‘Masterpiece’ series. Fronted by renowned artists and DJs the masterpiece series is reminiscent of the ‘back to mine’ releases where artists can show their influences and inspirations giving fans an insight into the music behind the Artist.

‘Masterpiece’ is a three CD release which begins with ‘Alpha’ a blend of classics including Roy Ayers, Smokey Robinson, Soul II Soul and Radiohead. ‘Alpha’ contains a beautiful re-work of Inner City Life By [re:jazz] which has to be heard.

Second up is the ‘journeyman’ mix, taking us through the early 90’s Rave days of Hardcore and Drum & Bass with artists from Top Buzz to A Guy Called Gerald. ‘Journeyman’ sends you right back to nights filled with pulsing strobe lights and billowing smoke machines.

Last but not least ‘Headzville’ championing artists signed to Goldie’s own label Metalheadz including dBridge, Commix, Jubei and more. ‘Headzville’ is a pure Drum & Bass mix which explores the genre expertly. Goldie’s addition to the ‘Masterpiece’ collection will no doubt be a must for all Drum & Bass fans but also those of us who love those rare opportunities to hear the music that influenced a career.

Goldie’s Masterpiece is out now on Ministry of Sound, and you van pick it up on cd http://smarturl.it/MasterpieceGoldie_CD or vinyl http://smarturl.it/MstrpieceGoldieVinyl
