Film Festival Preview: ShAFF

What started back in 2003 as a series of grass route rock climbing talks morphed into the inaugural Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) in 2006. It has continued to grow in the proceeding years into a Mecca for adventurous types; screening over a hundred of the best adventure, travel and extreme sports films.

This year’s festival will feature film sessions under the headings of Adrenaline, Climb, Mountain, Spirit of Adventure, Mountain Biking, Ski & Board, Run, Road Bike, Surf & Kayak and Young Adventure. These sessions are a mix of feature length and short films which showcase the diversity and quality ShAFF has to offer.

This year there’s particular emphasis on Women in Adventure Films with over 40 films which either feature a female athlete or have a female director or producer. The highlight is the première of Impossible, a film about Paralympian Karen Drake, featuring a Q&A with the athlete. Former England rugby captain, Catherine Spencer, will also be there in support of Valuer.

Along with a great selection of films there will also be talks, workshops and much more. Visit the ShAFF website to buy tickets and for further information. The festival takes place in Sheffield over the weekend of the 20th-22nd March.
