Film Festival Preview: Grimmfest 2015

Grimmfest 2015

Grimmfest has firmly established itself as one of the strongest northern film festivals. Showcasing a mix of the best new horror, sci-fi, cult and fantasy films, this year’s festival takes place between 1st – 4th October at Odeon Printworks, Manchester. Along with a selection of premieres and some classics, there will be several events running alongside the festival. Check out a few of the best films screening over the weekend:

He Never Died

An exceptionally prolonged life brings depression and a detachment. Jack buys stolen blood from a hospital intern, plays bingo daily, sleeps fourteen hours a day, watches television six hours a day, and lives alone. This is his life and he has shelled himself away from social interactions. The fuse is lit when Jack’s past comes back to rattle him. Jack must now walk the tight rope of sobriety and try to eat as few people as possible in this violent tale of personal responsibility and self worth . As it turns out, there are very few reasons to live when you can’t die.

Turbo Kid

In a post-apocalyptic parallel future of 1997, an orphaned teenager called The Kid scavenges the Wasteland searching for relics from a better time (the 80s). During one of his expeditions he meets Apple, a mysterious girl with a rather large secret. As their relationship deepens, they accidentally run afoul of Zeus, the self-proclaimed leader of the Wasteland

Excess Flesh

Jill is obsessed with her new roommate Jennifer, a promiscuous and sexy hotshot in the LA Fashion scene.  New to the city and recently single, Jill is unable to keep up as she binges and purges to stay thin; eventually hating herself and everyone around her. Her jealousy and rage spiral out of control — Jennifer has everything, and Jill wants to be just like her.  If Jill can’t BE Jennifer, she must destroy her.

The Hive

At the height of summer, Adam and Katie find love for the first time. Fellow camp counselors Clark and Jess couldn’t care less about the kids they’re overseeing as long as they can hook up. But, when a plane crashes nearby, their investigation unleashes a mysterious plague, putting all campers in danger.

The Nightmare

Following his exploration on the deep effects of cinema in his feature Room 237, director Rodney Ascher now investigates the phenomenon of sleep paralysis. In this documentary-horror film, we experience the terror that a surprisingly large number of people suffer when they find themselves trapped between the sleeping and waking worlds every night.
