EP: Julien Jabre – Samana

French producer Julien Jabre has gone back to his own Elias imprint for the release of his new EP, Samana, out on vinyl on May 13th.

After releasing music on the Basic Recordings and Versatile labels, Jabre decided to make a comeback to the label he set up in 2003 following the reissue of ‘Stand on the World’ by The Jourbert Singers with  remix by Dimitri from Paris in 2016. On this three track EP, Jabre has drafted in Paris based producer Lazare Hoche who is 1/3 of Mandar on the remix.

Opener Samana (Levant Mix) which translates to ‘our sky’ in Lebanese, kicks things off with this little viol of euphoria to pour directly into your veins, shimmering with these wobbling synth lines and echoey vocal cut ups. It’s bubbles and splashes away, conversing deep house with skill and imagination.

Follow on Far at Sea is more immediate, its chromatic bassline throwing curveballs as over the top vocal samples and synths lines are layered over eachother, one urgent, imploring, while the synths are cloudy and more static. Lazare Hoche’s edit of the title track is darker and more menacing, as it slowly tries to transform but ends up just twisting itself inside out, firmly entrenched on the dancefloor, it’s metallic tech-house stylings allowed to seep through to the forefront.
