Harlem born and raised singer and rapper Kahlil Blu shares a new single, “runway talk.” The song features the hotter than hot Charlotte, North Carolina native, MAVI, on the second verse. The artists, both liked-minded purveyors of graceful, poetic and personal lyrics, share a natural comradeship on the track. Kahlil’s music often features lush arrangements, with a singing-rapping style that makes him instantly recognizable, and this one is no exception. Looped sounds percolate, vibrate and gurgle over keyboard washes, as Kahlil chants his verse, and the chorus, at a rapid pace.
Kahlil Blu fits firmly within the new rap movement, centered in New York, with its finest proponents MIKE, MAVI, ZekeUltra, Caleb Giles, and Medhane, but the sound also influenced by its West Coast catalysts, Earl Sweatshirt and Maxo. In 2019, Kahlil released the fine 11, fourteen tracks of hazy goodness that explore life, love, personal challenges and personal triumphs, with suppleness and beauty. All production on the new single, and Kahlil’s long-player, constructed by the man himself. Keep your eyes and ears on Kahlil Blu!
