Hip hop icon Jeru The Damaja announces the release of a new single, “Power,” on July 10th. The song, written before the current upheaval in the United States, is a prescient look at the systemic inequalities facing that country that have been left unaddressed since its founding. Jeru debuted a live performance of the song in April, during his Tiny Desk Concert, on the U.S.’s National Public Radio.
“Power,” the last song in Jeru’s live, home set, is the artist’s first new song in over a year. The former Brooklynite performs from his digs in Berlin. According to the press release accompanying the song, Jeru says that “now more than ever, it’s time to be a part of the conversation that offers solutions to the challenges we face.” The legendary emcee adds that “unity is the enemy of chaos.” Get yourself a pair of Damaja socks and watch!
